Italy,
France, Romania and Hungary were among the countries mentioned
prominently in the European Parliament's debate on press freedom on
Wednesday. European Commissioner Neelie Kroes (Digital Agenda) said
that the commission is not able to proper address violations of
fundamental rights. She said the commission does have the capacity to
take up these issues when they result in national-level infringements
on European agreements.
Curbs on freedom of expression and
information as well as government control of the media in several
Member States came under the spotlight in a debate with the Commission
on Tuesday night. Following a heated debate last autumn that
highlighted the differing views on this topic among MEPs, Parliament
rejected - on 21 October 2009 - all the motions for resolutions on
press freedom in Italy and other Member States tabled by its various
political groups. In a report published in July this year the
Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) voiced
concern about press freedom in several EU countries.
Debating the issue in this video are:
- Manfred Weber, EPP, Germany;
- Andres Perello Rodriguez, Socialists & Democrats, Spain;
- Sonia Alfano, ALDE group, Italy; and
- Judith Sargentini, Greens/EFA, The Netherlands.

CASSA LOCO.
Si pe astia ii platim noi !
Romania plateste mai mult decat ia de la UE.
Iar proiectul auzit ieri se bazeaza doar pe banii pe care-i asteptam de la UE.
As fi vrut sa vad si eu enumerate "realizarile" Romaniei de cand am intrat in UE.
Azi dimineata am urmarit cateva secvente din "Lista lui Schindler"....
Postare nouă, cu Renate Weber, la temă.
Nişte ordinari.
