EPP welcomes outcome of the Cancun Climate conference
"The European People's Party (EPP) clearly supports the progress on the way to an international agreement that has been achieved in Cancun. After the disapppointing result in Copenhagen one year ago the negotiations are now back on track. The countries from all around the world have agreed on taking measures to limit global warming to max. 2 °C compared to preindustrial times. Moreover, it was also agreed to currently continue our commitments made in the Kyoto Treaty. But it is also clear that the main work is still ahead of us: our aim needs to be a binding international agreement to which industrialized and developing countries commit themselves. The EPP will not only work for achieving the goals which the EU has committed itself to, but also for obtaining this broad international agreement next year," the EPP President declared.
