Manneken Pis 'pees' on European Council President Van Rompuy

 

As Belgium prepares to take on the rotating six-month presidency of the European Union, the country's capital Brussels is getting ready for several events relating to its emphasized leadership role of the 27-nation union in Europe. On Wednesday, European President Herman van Rompuy unveiled a new, European costume for Manneken Pis, the most well-known symbol of Brussels next to the European institutions and the Atomium.

This official video footage, made available by the audiovisual service of the European Council, appears to have deliberately eliminated a shot scene where Manneken Pis 'pees' on the European Council president. The footage shows how Van Rompuy, accompanied by Brussels mayor Freddy Thielemans, count down and unveil the new outfit for the famous little boy in Brussels, but then immediately cuts to a later scene after showing how the water 'tap' behind the statue is 'a bit more powerful' than normal, with the water spraying over the fence in the direction of Van Rompuy and Thielemans.
